Industrial action to continue for a further two weeks 6 August 2007

Industrial action in Royal Mail by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is set to continue for a further two weeks.

The next programme of strike action will be an extension of the current action which is targeting different parts of Royal Mail operations on different days. The strike was due to end on Wednesday (August 8) but is now expected to run until Friday 17th August 2007.

Tuesday 7th August 2007

We expect mail posted on the Island bound for the UK, Europe and international destinations on Tuesday for delivery on Wednesday to be delivered as normal apart from the following postcode areas:- Crew (CW), Portsmouth (PO), Reading (RG), Truro (TR), Swansea (SA), Dartford (DA), Redhill (RH) and Brighton (BN). Deliveries to these postcodes may be subject to a 24-hour delay and the Special Delivery guarantee cannot be offered to these areas. Meanwhile the guarantee will be in place for all other postcodes.

Indications from Royal Mail are that the backlog of mail has been cleared so deliveries on the Island should be as normal tomorrow.

Wednesday 8th August 2007

Minimal disruption to inbound and outward mail is anticipated.

Isle of Man Post Office is continuing to liaise with Royal Mail on a daily basis and a further update will be issued on Wednesday afternoon. However, the Communication Workers Union’s programme of industrial action is likely to cause significant disruption for deliveries on Friday and Saturday. We advise customers to post as early in the week as possible to avoid any delay.

Bank pouch and Parceforce services will continue to be unaffected by the industrial action as will local to local mail.
