Isle of Man open for Business 7 August 2007

Whilst Government has acted quickly to protect the Manx countryside by introducing a range of precautionary measures, as a result of the outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease in Surrey, the Island remains open for visitors.

Whilst the footpaths are currently closed most of the Island’s glens and plantations remain open and there are a wide range of attractions for visitors to enjoy including:

The Department has already held discussions with representatives of the Tourism industry to set up a joint working party to ensure communication during this period is intensified and so that proper consultation can take place.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK commented:

‘My Department is working very hard to minimise the potential impact on the industry of the outbreak of foot and mouth in the UK. The Tourism industry is worth over £100million to the economy and plays an essential part in Island life and, despite the necessary precautions, my message is that the Isle of Man remains open for business. I am also very hopeful that this outbreak will quickly be contained so that we can begin to re-open footpaths and other amenities and get back to normal in a short period of time.’
