Noble’s recruits August Junior Doctor Intake 8 August 2007

The Department of Health and Social Security has today confirmed that the recruitment of its August junior doctor intake at Noble’s Hospital has been successfully achieved as usual, in contrast to many UK Trusts who have suffered problems. The UK Press has highlighted difficulties this year, owing to a stream of problems with the Medical Training Application Service (MTAS), through which all junior doctors were required to apply for posts. Although Noble’s Hospital has been obligated to recruit its junior doctors through MTAS this year, and despite a small number of vacant posts, contingencies have been put in place to ensure the workload and rotas are covered over the coming few days.

Eddie Teare, MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“I am delighted that Noble’s Hospital has been able to successfully achieve its junior doctor recruitment in the face of such difficulties this year. It is particularly pleasing, and a credit to all involved, that there has been no impact on patient care”

Mrs Barbara Scott, Acting Hospital Manager said,

“We are accustomed to a high turnover of doctors in August. This year, problems with MTAS have meant we still have a small number of unfilled posts, but we have made short-term adjustments to working patterns, until everything settles down. We have been working closely with the Medical staff to cover the workload. This means that it’s business as usual and the patients should see no difference when attending hospital.”
