It all adds up for Fay and Jake 22 August 2007

Murray’s Road Junior School pupil Fay Wilcox, 10, of Douglas, picks up the schools’ Year 5 Maths Prize – a £10 book token and a certificate – from the Isle of Man Mathematical Society’s chairman, Geoffrey Clark.

The society runs the Mathematical Challenge each year for Year 5 and 6 students. Kewaigue School pupil Jake Hewins won the prize in the older age category.

A total of 149 pupils at 16 primary schools took part this year and marks were awarded for correct answers to maths and logic questions and for showing how answers were reached.

The challenge is sponsored by Mr Clark’s company, Planning Mann. There were six runners up.
