DTL launches exhibition programme at Southport Flower Show 31 August 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure got this year’s off Island promotional partnership programme off to a very positive start by exhibiting at the Southport Flower Show for the first time earlier this month. The Manx exhibit included a unique showpiece garden depicting the natural and cultural aspects of the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man Department of Tourism partnered by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, Douglas Corporation and Pooil Vaaish Ltd, exhibited at the show for the first time and despite the changeable weather over the four days of the show, there was a great deal of interest in the Isle of Man.

Tourism and Leisure Minister, Adrian Earnshaw said,

‘I felt the Isle of Man would benefit from a presence at the Southport Flower show after visiting it in previous years. I am pleased to say that there was a lot of interest in the Isle of Man. Many people enquiring about the Island had not been for years but our presence at the show rekindled their interest.

The Minister went on to say,

‘I would like to thank Douglas Corporation and Pooil Vaaish in this venture. Their hard work resulted in a wonderful garden display representing the rugged natural beauty of the Isle of Man.’

The promotional programme continues with the Premier Holidays Travel show in September followed by representation at at least seven other major consumer events including the BBC Good Food show in November and the Ordnance Survey Outdoors show in March 2008.

Adrian Earnshaw added,

“The diversity of the shows the Department and its partners are attending reflects the variety of activities and interests that are available directly to our potential visitors. We will be partnering with Isle of Man Pure Produce at the BBC Good Food show just prior to Christmas and in March we will be joined by representatives from Adventurous Experiences, the Venture Centre, Isle of Man Walking Festival, Manx Mountain Bike Club and Diving holidays. The Department is attending lifestyle shows and, working with the Island’s specialist providers, targeting the markets which the Isle of Man will do well in, and developing new markets”
