Customers advised to post early 28 September 2007

Following unsuccessful talks between Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) a further series of industrial action has been announced.

The CWU plans to stage two 48-hour strikes, the first commencing at noon on Thursday 4th October until noon Saturday 6th October and from 3am on Monday 8th until 3am Wednesday 10th October 2007.

Isle of Man Post Office is working with Royal Mail to assess the full impact this industrial action will have on Isle of Man customers. Until the impact is known, our recommendation to customers is to post as early as possible next week (Wednesday at the latest) to avoid any disruption to their UK & international mail being delivered.

Those customers who have urgent items to send from Thursday onwards are recommended to consider using Parcelforce’s guaranteed next day services. During the industrial action local to local mail will be unaffected and it is expected Parcelforce and bank pouch services will not suffer any disruption either.

Isle of Man Post Office employees are not involved in this industrial action and every effort will be taken to minimise any disruption caused as a result of the action in the UK.

Further information about the impact of the industrial action will be provided early next week.
