New Age Kurling - Fun for all the Family 3 October 2007

Anyone looking for something a little bit different this weekend should head for the NSC and try their hand at New Age Kurling.

‘New Age Kurling’ or NAK, as it is most often called, is a form of the game of curling but instead of playing on ice it is played usually on a badminton court with a bulls eye target at one end. The stones (made out of hard rubber with ball bearings beneath) are ‘thrown’ as in a bowls fashion, the aim being to get it as close to the bull as possible. Tactics can be employed that block opponents stone or knock it off the court. A set of stones consist of 4 red and 4 blue and are thrown by alternate players. It is now played in over 47 countries by people of all ages and abilities.

The Manx Sport and Recreation team at the National Sports Centre are running sessions once a week. It’s great fun for everyone, clubs, schools and all the family. New members are welcome of any age and ability at a cost of only £2.00 per session and you can be assured of a couple of hours of fun and entertainment.

The next session is this Saturday 6 October between 2.00 and 4.00pm in the main sports hall at the NSC, and every Saturday there after. If any one is interested in taking part and joining the New Age Kurling Club turn up at 2.00pm on Saturday or contact: Wendy Wood on 674705, or e-mail: beechsyde@manx.net
