American Travel Writers choose Isle of Man 4 October 2007

A group of members of The Society of American Travel Writers are visiting the Isle of Man this week, and next, as part of their visit to the Society’s annual conference in Manchester. 12 delegates have chosen to visit the Isle of Man prior to the conference 3-5 October and 17 delegates post-conference from 10-12 October.

Geoff Le Page, Director of Tourism said:

‘We are very pleased that so many of these American Travel Writers have chosen to visit our Island. I am confident that they will help to raise the profile of the Isle of Man as a holiday destination in America and hopefully we can build on the good publicity we are constantly receiving. I am looking forward to meeting the group and the Tourism team will ensure they receive a warm Manx welcome.’

During their stay they will visit Cregneash and The Sound, Brightlife, Laxey Wheel, take a tour of the Gaiety Theatre, the Manx Museum TT centenary exhibition and sample a traditional Manx pub & music at The Whitehouse in Peel. They will also attend a Department of Tourism and Leisure presentation, together with Manx National Heritage, and evening reception in the Medieval Hall at Castle Rushen and a Manx themed dinner at the Swiss Chalet restaurant.

Among the visitors are some high profile journalists writing for publications such as the Washington Post, LA Times, Dallas Morning News, Vancouver Courier, Philadelphia Inquirer, Florida Times, National Geographic Traveller, Miami Herald and International Travel news.

The Department of Tourism and Leisure will continue to facilitate international press visits as part of its ongoing strategy. Recent visits also include the Swiss newspaper, Zurcher Landzeitung and a Dutch national TV holiday programme 3 0p Reis (On a Journey).
