Trial Des Nations 12 October 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure was pleased to welcome the prestigious FIM Trial des Nations recently where countries from around the world battled in this great motorcycle team competition. Thirty teams, representing nineteen different nations, from as far afield as America and Japan arrived on the Island to compete for three separate titles, ten years after the event was first staged in the Isle of Man in 1997.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘I would like to congratulate the Peveril Motorcycle Club on their superb organisation of Trial des Nations. The event saw some of the world’s top trials talent competing for international team honours and the positive feedback we have received from the FIM is encouraging. I certainly hope to welcome the TDN back in future years.’

The trials took place on Friday 28 September – Sunday 30 September and comprised of the Women’s Individual World Championships and the Men’s and Women’s Trial des Nations team events.

The women’s individual title was won by German rider Iris Kramer, beating Spain’s six times previous winner Laia Sanz. Saturday saw Britain taking the honours in the women’s TDN after completing challenging sections in Douglas and Onchan.

The climax of the event was Sunday’s men’s world team championship, with competitors displaying breathtaking skill particularly over the Groudle and Port Jack sections. The Spanish team came out on top, with Japan second after a neck and neck duel with the British team.

The Trial des Nations helps to confirm the Island’s proud boast of being the motorsport capital of the World and provided a thrilling spectacle for thousands of Island residents and off-island spectators alike.
