Walking Festival – Autumn Gold 16 October 2007

The second Autumn Walking Festival took place last weekend with 60 visitors travelling to the Island to take part in the Festival.

The varied programme took walkers around the South of the Island, including Port St.Mary/Port Erin area, taking in the Chasms, the Sound and the southern coastline. The most popular walk was Port Erin - Port St Mary – The Sound.

Twelve walks were included in the weekend’s itinerary and social events were arranged during the evenings including entertainment provided by local musicians and Manx dancers. The social highlight of the Festival this year was indeed the Grand Ceilidh finale, led by the Calor Gas Ceilidh Band - where everyone entered into the spirit and enjoyed the fun.

Festival Organiser Mick Salmon said:

‘Walkers came from all over the UK to take part and we have received very positive feedback on the organisation of the October Walking Festival. We plan to build on this great event in future years and hope people will go back home and spread the word about the wonderful time they have had walking in the Isle of Man. October is a really special time in the Isle of Man, showcasing the breathtaking Autumn colours on the Island with the stunning displays of red, orange and gold - a truly great time of the year to share with our visitors.’

The Walking Festival has been a huge success story and the Department of Tourism and Leisure is now looking forward to the June 2008 event having received 20 bookings already, including 15 from a walking group in America.

All information is now available on www.isleofmanwalking.com and Travel Services are now taking booking enquiries on 661177.
