DHSS submit planning application for new Palatine Health Centre 29 October 2007

The Department of Health and Social Security today announced that a detailed planning application has been submitted for the construction of the relocated Palatine Health Centre.

Hon W E Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“Planning permission, in principle, for the setting of the premises has already been obtained, and this application covers the detailed construction plans. The Department hopes to have everything in place, so construction of the new Palatine Health Centre can commence on schedule, early next year.”

The Palatine Health Centre is to be relocated to Braddan, with the Strang Corner Field the designated site.

Mike Harrington, Director of Estate Services said,

“Expressions of interest were sought from the construction industry to design and build the facility. However, we were disappointed at the response, and the tenders which were eventually received significantly exceeded the budgetary allowance designated for the facility. Therefore, following consultation with professionals in the construction field, it was decided that the Department undertakes the completion of the designs for the facility. This will hopefully result in more interest from the construction industry, as they can submit build only tenders for a fully designed scheme.”
