International Visitors Enjoy Island's Delights 9 November 2007

Five visitors from VisitBritain, including three from overseas, sampled the delights of the Island, in between the sunshine and showers, last weekend.

The press officers, Alessandra Lolli from Italy, Edwin Swan from South Africa, Emma Paris representing South East Asia, Sian Brenchley and Rose Hughes from London had been attending a VisitBritain Conference in Liverpool. After the conference they had the opportunity to visit a number of places in Britain and the Channel Islands and the five opted to visit the Isle of Man.

Sian said she could not believe how much there was to see and do on an Island so small, Alessandra commented that everyone was so friendly, and they all thanked the Department enthusiastically for giving them the opportunity to enjoy the Isle of Man and explore the many opportunities it has to offer international media as a holiday destination.

Director of Tourism Geoff Le Page also met them during their visit. He said:

‘I am very pleased that the representatives made the Island their first choice and hope this will lead to additional business from their respective countries in the future. Their brief visit has enabled them to go back and inform prospective visitors of what our Island has to offer.’

During their stay they visited a number of attractions and they all agreed the highlights of the weekend were the Laxey Wheel, House of Manannan, and a visit to the Gaiety Theatre to see the Moscow Ballet perform Sleeping Beauty. They were very impressed with the Island’s heritage and also enjoyed a trip on both the steam train and electric railway.
