Drug and Alcohol community roadshows 16 November 2007

COMMUNITY roadshows are to be staged around the Island to provide members of the public with the latest information about the Chief Minister’s Drug and Alcohol Strategy.

Strategy Co-ordinator Margaret O’Reilly and other representatives covering the criminal justice, education and health/treatment aspects of the strategy will host the first roadshows in Castletown and Ramsey later this month.

The first will be held at Castletown Civic Hall, on Wednesday, November 21, with the second at Ramsey Town Hall on Tuesday, November 27. Both will start at 7.30pm and are expected to last around one hour. Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free.

Home Affairs Minister Martyn Quayle, MHK commented:

‘ These meetings are great opportunities for people to find out more about all that is being done in relation to the Drug and Alcohol Strategy, and to offer any comments or suggestions.’

The objective of the evenings will be:

  • To promote greater understanding of drug and alcohol issues;
  • To outline the various initiatives and activities under the umbrella of the strategy;
  • To give the community an opportunity to voice their views;
  • To inform the community where to go for help and/or information.

Mrs O’Reilly explained:

‘Following an update on the work and achievements of the Drug and Alcohol Strategy given to Members of Tynwald recently, the Chief Minister was very keen that interested members of the community had the opportunity to hear about the strategy first hand. We would also welcome people’s feedback and suggestions for the future direction of the strategy.
‘We know people often have queries on different aspects of the strategy and we’d be delighted to have them come along to one of the planned roadshows to ask questions and give us their opinions,’ Margaret went on. ‘We can provide practical examples of the strategy and how it works.’

Future roadshows are planned throughout the Island in 2008. Anyone who wants more information can contact Margaret O’Reilly on 686242 or look at the website:
