Manx National Heritage is hosting three special late night shopping evenings at the Manx Museum in Douglas, on Friday 23rd November, Wednesday 12th December until 7.30pm, and Friday 14th December until 9pm.

Maureen Kennaugh, Retail Manager for Manx National Heritage, said:

Many of us have family and friends who have left the Island but still have very close ties. For these, buying a gift which is uniquely Manx, affordable and good quality is paramount. The festive shopping evenings at the Manx Museum offer the ideal opportunity to look for such gifts, including locally produced products, fair trade products and Manx National Heritage’s own exclusive range of products”.

Andrew McDonald All three evenings coincide with the Manx Museum’s programme of winter lectures including ‘Underwater Resting Places – the Legacy of Wartime Losses at Sea’, on Friday, 23rd November and on Wednesday the 12th December ‘Pursuing the Passion of Patchwork in Africa’, presented by Helen Granville.

The lecture on Friday 14th December, ‘Manx Kingship – King Rognvaldr and the Crovan Dynasty’ by Andrew McDonald, with an accompanying short lecture on ‘Presenting Manx Vikings’ by Manx National Heritage curators, Andrew Johnson and Allison Fox, is followed by the launch of Andrew McDonald’s book “Manx Kingship in its Irish Sea Setting, 1187-1229”. The launch will offer visitors a chance to meet the author plus a 10% discount off the book’s normal selling price.

Maureen continued:

All of the special late night shopping evenings start at 5.30pm, with the lectures all starting at 7.30pm, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the Manx Museum heritage shop and warming mulled wine and mince pie before the lectures”.

The Manx Museum is part of the award winning Story of Mann, and admission to the Manx Museum and all of these events is free of charge.
