Electricity Demand Breaks Record 19 December 2007

The MEA have announced today that the highest demand ever recorded for the Authority was achieved on Monday evening.

Previously the maximum demand record for the Island was 87.4MW recorded 13 December 2005. That record has been beaten by 91.2MW on Monday evening and a spot demand of 93.1MW. In addition, the Authority was also exporting 50MW to the UK.

Chief Executive, Ashton Lewis said,

“this is where our ability to serve the Island and obtain profit by exporting energy over the subsea interconnector shows the flexibility and security of our infrastructure to obtain best price and first class service to our consumers”.

He went on to say,

“this very cold spell has put our Trading and Generation Team to the test and I am proud to say we met the challenge”.
“We are recording data on a daily basis and ‘who knows’ we may break Monday’s record once again before the winter is over”.
