Isle of Man Welcomes Final Cruise Liner of 2007 20 December 2007

The final cruise call of 2007 will arrive in Douglas at 10.00 am on Saturday 29th December. MS Black Prince is scheduled to arrive from Liverpool and berth alongside the Victoria Pier.

The MS Black Prince will visit the Isle of Man as part of a Fred Olsen Line New Year’s celebration cruise and will be carrying 400 passengers. The vessel is 143m long, weighs 11,200 tonnes and carries 200 crew.

The Island has already welcomed eight vessels this year, including the prestigious Prinsendam, Saga Rose, Deutschland and the Astor.

Geoff Corkish MBE MHK, political member for Department of Tourism and Leisure, said:

‘This year brought several cruise ships into the Isle of Man. This is an important development for the Island as it continues to bring new visitors and help raise our profile as a successful year round cruise destination. It is certainly a confidence boost that so many cruise operators are considering the Isle of Man and already there are 12 scheduled cruise ship visits to the Island in 2008, a significant increase on the 2007 bookings.’

Passengers disembarking in Douglas will be greeted by representatives of the Department of Tourism and Leisure, and, importantly at this seasonal time, Father Christmas and Rudolph. Around 100 passengers will be taking an organised tour to the House of Manannan in Peel where they will be treated to mince pies and mulled wine courtesy of the Department of Tourism and Leisure. Other visitors will spend their day at leisure.

The MS Black Prince is scheduled to return three times in 2008 – April, July and September. She will depart for Waterford at 5.00 pm
