DoT crews respond to festive call outs 3 January 2008

DoT workers continue to have a busy time on the Island’s roads as we go into 2008.

Gritters were hard at work on Christmas Day in the areas of the Mountain Road, Hillberry, Quarterbridge, Johnny Watterson’s Lane, the Ballahutchin at Union Mills and St Marks to Braaid.

The weather also saw Department staff called out during the festive period to deal with several incidences of trees in the highway on the Conrheny Road, Foxdale/St Johns, Blackboards, Tynwald Mills, Ellenbrook, Kirk Michael, Glen Duff, Ballaspur, Churchtown, Poortown Road and Glen Moar Road. Workers were also called out to several diesel spills during the last few days.

In total there were 46 call outs over the Christmas and New Year period.

Director of Works Clive Callister said:

‘I would like to thank the crews for their efforts, particularly those on duty on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, who missed out on the festivities to ensure that the Island’s roads were kept clear and safe.’
