Autocar Believe in Manx Power! 11 January 2008

Autocar, the UK's original and one of the most popular car weekly magazines, has published an excellent six page feature this week having spent five days during November in the Isle of Man road testing their Caterham and Honda Civic cars.

Jamie Corstorphine, Senior Road Tester, and photographers Stuart Price and Matt Prior were aware that the Isle of Man was an exciting and scenic location in which to road test cars and were eager to travel to the Island to explore for themselves. In fact, the team were so impressed with the wonderful scenery and open roads that they are hoping to return to the Island again this year.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘I am pleased that Autocar chose to visit the Island to test their vehicles. The feature will greatly benefit the Isle of Man and this is just one of many media visits my Department has assisted in hosting during 2007, resulting in plenty of positive exposure. The Island received excellent coverage last year in national newspapers including the Sunday Times, Observer, the Daily Express, and magazines such as Country Walking, Choice and London’s Time Out. Many more Press visits by UK and international journalists are planned for this year.’

The Department’s Communications section measures coverage in terms of equivalent advertising values. With assistance from its UK and Irish PR consultants, a value of £623,734 was achieved in the UK press in 2007. In addition, £2,745,000 worth of TV coverage was viewed in the UK alone. Television crews helped included Time Team, BBC Coast and BBC’s The One Show.

Facilitating media visits is part of the Tourism PR strategy which encourages many media visits every year with the aim of raising the Island’s profile and awareness of the Isle of Man as a holiday destination.
