“The Great Civil War” 15 January 2008

Continuing with its increasingly popular Winter Lecture Programme, Manx National Heritage will be hosting a lecture by the charismatic speaker Professor Ronald Hutton, a leading authority on the history of the British Isles in the 16th & 17th Centuries. The lecture will take place at the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre on Friday 18th January, at 7.30pm. Professor R Hutton

Professor Hutton, who held a very successful lecture in last year’s winter event programme, returns to the Manx Museum to unearth the histories of the Great Civil War and the dramatic impact the war had on Britain.

Professor Ronald Hutton comments:

“I shall propose that this was the worst experience that the peoples of the British mainland and its smaller islands have ever undergone, killing more of them than any other war and destroying their view of the world. I shall answer the questions of how it broke out, why it lasted so long, what impact it made, and how it was ended”.

Professor Hutton is a Professor of History at Bristol University and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the Society of Antiquaries and has also written a plethora of books on a wide variety of historical topics.

The lecture will commence at 7.30 pm on Friday 18th January 2008 and will be held at the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre. Doors open at 7 pm and admission is free of charge.

The Manx Museum is part of the award winning Story of Mann and is open all year from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
