The Department of Health and Social Security is proud to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS).

Hon W E Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“I am delighted to be celebrating 60 years of the NHS. Since its introduction in 1948, the NHS has become fundamental to the lives of everyone in the Isle of Man. Over the coming year, as in every year, new services will be launched, initiatives devised and strategies written to further develop Health and Social Services and ensure the NHS continues to be a fundamental part of Manx life for the next 60 years and beyond.”

Mrs Pamela Crowe MLC, Member for Health said,

“I am very proud of the professional and caring services, provided under the NHS, to the people of the Isle of Man for 60 years. The excellence of staff working within Manx healthcare and the quality of the services they provide each and every day ensure the legacy of the NHS in the Isle of Man is in safe hands.”

The National Health Service began in the Isle of Man in 1948 and ensured that the services were available to all people in the Island regardless of their financial circumstances.

There will be many events to look out for during the year ahead to celebrate this occasion.
