We Love Recycling! Valentine’s Day Celebrated with New Recycling Provision on Douglas Promenade 14 February 2008

The Environment Department’s Recycling Section is celebrating its commitment to recycling this Valentine’s Day with the arrival of an innovative new ‘NODE 3600’ recycling centre at Loch Promenade, Douglas. The recycling centre is new, smart, secure system known as ‘street furniture’ and is specifically designed by manufacturer TAYLOR to blend well into its surroundings. The NODE 3600 consists of four containers, locked to a secure, central post which will enable the public to recycle newspapers, magazines, glass bottles and cans.

Joanne Hetherington, the Environment Department’s Recycling Officer said

“We are delighted that our new recycling station has arrived on Valentine’s Day, as it is the ideal opportunity to engage members of the public who love recycling. Loch Promenade gardens are beautifully maintained and the whole area is very popular with local people and visitors. This new recycling station will make it more convenient for Promenade residents to recycle their newspapers, cans and glass bottles, as well as visitors who come for lunchtime breaks and family picnics. If the NODE recycling centre is a success on the Promenade, we would look to expand the scheme to other areas in the future.”

Dr David Gillett, Director of Taylor’s Intelligence Unit, added:

“Loch Promenade will become a haven for recycling and boosting public participation rates. The NODE system is incredibly easy to use, practical for collectors and also proven to encourage recycling in public places.”
