NSC Swimming Pool Reaches 10 Year Landmark 18 February 2008

The Department of Tourism and Leisure has recently celebrated the tenth Anniversary of the opening of the National Sports Centre.

The pool complex opened in January 1998 and during the ten year period almost two and a half million customers have used the swimming pools, a fantastic achievement for a population of 80,000 people.

To celebrate this achievement, on the 24th January 2008 the first family to pay for a ‘family swim’ were selected to receive a full year swimming, courtesy of the NSC. The lucky winners were Mr and Mrs Wilby from Port Erin and their three young children who were presented with a bouquet of flowers and a 12-month complimentary swimming voucher by the Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw and NSC Manager Carl Glover.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘The Isle of Man is fortunate to have one of the most prestigious sports facilities in the British Isles and our residents take great pride in the NSC and it’s huge success story. Swimming is a great way to keep fit, appealing to people of all ages, shapes and sizes, and above all it is great fun.’

The NSC boasts a swimming and leisure pool, five sports halls, a fitness zone gym and spa suite, an indoor bowling facility, six squash courts, an athletics track and an all weather synthetic pitch.
