Island develops links with City business leaders 29 February 2008

CHIEF Minister Tony Brown MHK and Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney MHK were top-table guests when the Lord Mayor of London hosted a dinner for British business leaders this week.

Mr Brown and Mr Cretney were invited to the Trade and Industry event at the Mansion House following the visit of the Lord Mayor, Alderman David Lewis, to the Isle of Man in November last year, when he praised the Island as ‘a core asset’ for the City of London.

Guests at the dinner - including senior figures from British industry and the City, and 2007 Queen’s Awards winners - heard speeches from the Lord Mayor and from guest speaker John Hutton, UK Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

The Chief Minister commented:

‘The invitation to the Trade and Industry dinner was one of the welcome opportunities that have arisen out of the Lord Mayor’s visit, which has really helped to cement the Island’s relations with the City. It was an honour to represent the Isle of Man at the Mansion House.’

Minister Cretney said:

‘The Isle of Man’s presence at such a gathering of business leaders is another indication that we are gaining recognition as an international centre for enterprise and innovation. It was extremely interesting to meet senior figures such as Peter Walker, Lord Walker of Worcester. The Island’s link with the Lord Mayor is proving to be very useful, and we are most grateful to him for inviting us.’
