Island in Bloom 2008 is Launched 10 March 2008

The Island in Bloom competition 2008 has been launched by the Department of Tourism and Leisure.

Island In Bloom co-ordinator Rachele Quayle said:

‘All local authorities have been invited to participate in the competition which aims to improve the appearance of towns and villages. Those who enter are eligible to receive a £50 grant towards administration costs and the overall winner of the competition will represent the Island in the UK Britain in Bloom finals next year'.

Meanwhile, Douglas Corporation, overall winner of the competition in 2007, will be gearing up to represent the Isle of Man again in the Britain in Bloom finals this summer.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘I hope the benefits which the Island in Bloom project can bring to an area are embraced by all of the local authorities. The competition promotes a tremendous sense of community and is above all fun. Douglas Corporation’s parks and gardens department put on a spectacular show each year and I wish them every success in the finals.’

Island in Bloom judging takes place in August and authorities have until June 23rd to apply for the grants to run their own regional competitions. Any Local Authority which has not yet received details can contact Rachele Quayle on 686806.
