DLGE Increases Awareness of Local Authority Elections 12 March 2008

The Department of Local Government and the Environment is seeking to further increase public awareness of Local Authority Elections by undertaking a radio advertising campaign.

The first series of adverts will run from Thursday 13th March until Sunday 23rd March, and will be aimed at encouraging candidates to stand for the Elections.

The Department will run further radio adverts in the lead-up to the Elections themselves taking place on the 24th April 2008, this time to encourage members of the public to vote.

John Shimmin, Minister for Local Government and the Environment, said:

“These adverts are a further attempt to increase public awareness of the Local Authority Elections and will complement the previous media coverage afforded to this issue by the Department, as well as the information on the Department’s website: www.gov.im/dlge/local/elections.xml.

The Department will also be publishing a composite Notice of Election this week and the following week. The Notice will inform the public that Local Authority Elections are taking place on Thursday, 24th April 2008, and that nomination papers need to be delivered to the Clerk to the Local Authority no later than 5.00 p.m. on Thursday, 27th March 2008.
