Isle of Man Vs Midlands - Kick off this Weekend 2 April 2008

Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw is urging local football fans to turn up at the Bowl on Saturday afternoon, at 2pm, to support the Isle of Man Football Association’s representative team in their semi final clash against the Midlands.

The winners will go forward to the final, where the prize is the chance to represent the English F.A. in an international tournament later this year. This is familiar territory for the Manx squad who last year battled through to the qualifying round in the Czech Republic where they narrowly lost out.

Mr Earnshaw is urging everyone who can attend to bring a Manx flag to show our support for our team. He said:

‘Kevin Manning has formed a great squad of players who represent the Isle of Man against areas with hugely larger pools of players. Nonetheless the IoM team play consistently well and have beaten representative teams from places such as Wearside and Liverpool.
The game against the Midlands will be a real challenge but I am sure I speak for all Manxies – both on the Island and living away - when I wish them all the very best for the match. Whatever the result the team have performed with great credit - hopefully we will see a famous Manx victory and the Isle of Man team again challenging for a place in a European tournament.’
