DHSS seek approval for Loch Promenade GP Surgery 11 April 2008

At this month’s sitting of Tynwald, Hon W E Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security, will be seeking approval for the construction of a new GP Surgery on the first floor of Chester Street Cark Park, Douglas.

The Minister said,

“We need to ensure that GP premises continue to meet the needs of the community they serve and to that extent the Department is committed to an ongoing review of existing GP premises and their locations. In this respect, it has been recognised that the existing Loch Promenade Medical Centre is no longer capable of fulfilling this requirement, and that a new facility is essential.”

The Minister added,

“The New Surgery will enable the Group Practice to provide a much improved service to the patients of Loch Promenade Medical Centre.”

Following a review of a considerable number of possible options in Douglas, an area within Chester Street Car Park was identified as suitable in terms of both location and area size for a new GP Practice premises.

Detailed discussions have taken place with GPs from Loch Promenade Medical Centre on the design of the proposed New Surgery and planning approval has subsequently been secured. The new facility will provide enhanced accommodation for the GPs, together with appropriate treatment rooms (which currently the GP practice does not have), waiting area and facilities for community staff.
