Manx Heritage Flower Festival Publicity Launch 15 April 2008

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw will launch the Manx Heritage Flower Festival 2008 on Saturday 19 April at St John’s Methodist Church.

Representatives from the 18 churches and chapels participating from around the Island will be present at the publicity launch which starts at 10.30am.

The theme this year is ‘Hope Springs Eternal’, which draws its inspiration from ‘Hope 2008’, a national UK campaign and Christian mission initiative to unite churches in word and deed. Its aim is to encourage people to work in partnership on events involving prayer and community action.

In the programme Mr Earnshaw says:

‘I know ‘Churches together in Mann’ are pleased to be associated with ‘Hope 2008’ and I firmly believe that it will help achieve togetherness among our community. The Flower Festival plays a big part in our Manx National week and it is also a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy nearby attractions including the Heritage sites and the National glens. Also don’t forget your camera before setting out as you can enter the photo competition. Entry forms will be available at the participating churches. Everyone is sure to receive a very warm welcome in all the churches and chapels and may I wish all our residents and visitors to the Island a most enjoyable week.’

Manx Heritage Flower Festival will run from July 6-12 and floral displays, photographs and paintings on the theme of ‘Hope Springs Eternal’ will be on view in the churches. A wide selection of refreshments will also be available, including cream teas, morning coffee and lunches. Free souvenir pamphlets listing all the participating churches and special events during the festival are available from the Isle of Man Welcome Centre in the Sea Terminal, Douglas and more information can be obtained by visiting the website www.manxflowerfestival.org
