Drug and Alcohol Strategy open day 22 April 2008

THE work of the Chief Minister’s Drug and Alcohol Strategy will be highlighted at an open day being held next month. Members of the public are invited to attend the Hilton Hotel in Douglas on Tuesday, May 13, between 10am and 6.30pm.

Several government and voluntary organisations will be represented at the event and the aim is to promote a greater understanding of drug and alcohol issues in the Island. Initiatives being progressed as part of the Drug and Alcohol Strategy will be outlined along with the information and support that is available to the public.

There will also be an opportunity for people to express their views on matters affecting the community as a result of drinking and drug use. Some of the displays at the Hilton will be interactive and there will be a chance to sample a mocktail – a non-alcoholic cocktail. It is hoped that Island politicians will visit the exhibition along with a number of school groups and representatives from the Island’s business and retails sectors.

Margaret O’Reilly, director of drug and alcohol policy and research, said:

‘This open day is a big part of our communication and awareness campaign. ‘I hope that as many people as possible will come along to find out about the various activities being undertaken under the umbrella of the Drug and Alcohol Strategy.’
