New Headteacher for Onchan Primary School 24 April 2008

THE Department of Education is pleased to confirm that Mrs Jo Richardson has been appointed to the Headship of Onchan Primary School with effect from 1st September 2008.

Mrs Richardson has been Headteacher at Anagh Coar Primary School for 5 years and has been in teaching for 20 years. She worked for Rochdale Local Education Authority and taught in four schools, rising to the position of acting headteacher, before returning to the Island where she was born and educated.

Mrs Richardson said her excitement at taking on the new post at Onchan School, which has nearly 400 children on the register, was tempered with sadness at leaving Anagh Coar.

She said:

‘I am looking forward to working in a larger environment, taking on new challenges and meeting staff, parents and children I haven’t yet met. But I will be extremely sorry to leave Anagh Coar. I am going to miss every single member of staff and I have built up fantastic relationships with parents, children and outside agencies. I have greatly enjoyed my time at Anagh Coar and am genuinely sad to be leaving it behind.’

Current Headteacher at Onchan School Mrs Sally Farrell is retiring after 10 years at the school. She has thoroughly enjoyed her time there and will be very sorry to leave such a supportive team. She has many happy memories to take with her.

‘I am fortunate enough to be working with a great team of cooperative, conscientious staff who have accomplished so much for the school through their commitment to meet the needs of all our children,’ she said.
‘The parents, too, are most supportive and our splendid children are nothing short of the best on the Island. I am, however, pleased to be leaving school in the knowledge that Mrs Richardson will continue the excellent work already happening here and I wish her every success in what I am sure will be a long, happy and very productive career.’
