Euromanx and IOM Patients travelling to the UK 9 May 2008

Following this morning’s news that Euromanx has ceased trading, the Department of Health and Social Security has put existing contingency plans into place. Unfortunately, this will result in some inconvenience to patients. However, the Department will do its best to ensure that patients receive the best possible service in the circumstances.

With the help of airport staff, most patients were able to transfer to other airlines and the Health Services Patient Transfers staff have been working since first thing this morning to make arrangements for other patients where possible. In addition, we understand that FlyBe is making arrangements to honour many EuroManx tickets and some patients were taken by Air Ambulance.

Our first priority is to ensure that patients due to be admitted to hospital today, or in the next few days are able to travel. Once we have achieved this we will be concentrating on making alternative arrangements for patients with outpatient appointments in the next week. At Liverpool Airport, existing contingency arrangements will remain in place, and patients should contact information desk on arrival or alternatively the Department on 642673 or 642619.

Patient Transfer staff are currently making contact with patients due to travel in the next few days. It will help us greatly, however, if patients due to travel after Wed 15 May allow Patient Transfers staff to concentrate on the patients with immediate problems and do NOT contact Patient Transfers at this a stage, as staff are being inundated with calls.

For those who do have immediate travel problems, the Patient Transfers telephone numbers are: 642673 and 642619.
