Wet ‘n’ Wild time at Ramsey 19 May 2008

RAMSEY Swimming Pool was echoing to the sound of happy young people when it was invaded by crocodiles and dragons on Saturday evening. Wet and Wild 08

Twenty four teams entered the Youth Service’s annual Wet ’n’ Wild fun event and enjoyed events including ‘Froggy Frolics’, ‘Jigsaw Jollies’, ‘Wandering Woggles’ and ‘Pushing Penguins’.

Competition for the much sought-after trophies was fierce and the final results were very close. In the school years 4, 5 and 6 category, the winning team was from Ramsey play club. Team members Bethan Walmsley, Stephanie Brew, Katie Callow, Greg Hepburn and Leon Mazzone were presented with their trophies by Inspector Dave Duke, one of the many adults who helped to make the event so successful.

Runners-up from Ballaugh play club were Jessica Corlett, Sarah Kinrade, Rebecca Cowin, Michael Simpson and Jay Kelly, who had led the event for most of the evening. At the finish, they were just a few seconds behind the Ramsey team. Taking third place was ‘Stingrays’, another team from Ramsey youth club.

In the category for school years 7 and over the first place went to Ballaugh youth club with 859 points. Team members Lucy Clarke, Zoe Oxley, Matthew Meechan, Chris Owen and Blair Hendrickson were delighted to receive their trophies from Inspector Duke, as were the runners-up, Poppy Evans, Rachel Exon, Polly Rogerson, Chloe Cross and Imogen Cannell from the Pony Club on 875 points.

Organiser Mike Clague thanked pool staff and adult helpers from the Youth Service who made the event such a success. He said:

‘It was a fantastic evening, with 120 young people enjoying and achieving. The young people were a credit to their clubs and families and it was great to see everyone giving full support to all the teams. The dragons can’t wait to emerge next year for an evening of fun.’
