GE announces further jobs created in the Isle of Man 30 June 2008

Today, 26th June, GE has announced that it will be creating over 20 jobs and investing millions of pounds in its aerospace manufacturing facility in Onchan in the Isle of Man.

GE is one of the world’s leading manufacturers. Its Isle of Man facility specialises in precision engineering of key components, principally for the aerospace sector, including parts for Airbus and Boeing.

The Minister for Trade and Industry Hon David Cretney MHK commented: “My Department has a long and close relationship with GE and its predecessors, Smiths and Dowty. The local facility has had its downs as well as ups – as recently as four years ago the workforce fell to less than 50. So I am delighted that the workforce has now grown to over 100 and that GE is so confident in the capabilities of the local team that GE will grow the workforce by over 20 additional jobs. The Onchan facility specialises in complex precision machining of key components, requiring a highly-skilled workforce and investment in leading-edge equipment. I look forward to working with GE as it continues to flourish in the Isle of Man for many years to come.”
