Chief Minister requests report on MGP congestion 3 September 2008

CHIEF Minister Tony Brown MHK confirmed today (3rd September 2008) that he had asked for a report on the traffic congestion that hit the Douglas area last Wednesday when Manx Grand Prix racing was delayed by bad weather.

Following the problems Mr Brown asked the Government group which oversees motorsport events to look at what had happened and how such a situation might be avoided in future. The group is made up of Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle MHK as chairman, Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK, Transport Minister David Anderson MHK and relevant senior officers.

The Chief Minister commented:

‘Members of the public suffered serious delays trying to get home on Wednesday evening. They are owed an explanation as to why this happened, and what might be done to prevent it happening again. It’s important that we get a clear picture of the situation so that lessons can be learned for the future.’
