Police recruitment open evenings 4 September 2008

WPC on dutyTWO open evenings are being held in Onchan next week as part of the campaign to recruit new police officers.

Anybody interested in joining the Isle of Man Constabulary is invited to attend one of the informal sessions at Winchester Court on Second Avenue. Officers will be available from 6pm on Tuesday, September 9, and from 7pm on Thursday, September 11, to answer questions and offer a personal insight into serving with the Manx force.

The evenings will start with a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the recruitment process and student training. This will be followed by a question and answer session to provide interested parties with a flavour of the wide range of duties performed by a modern-day police officer. Because of the limited seating capacity those who are planning to attend are asked to reserve a space by calling 631547 between 1pm and 4pm.

Candidates for the IoM Constabulary must be aged between 18 and a half and 40, meet the entrance criteria and pass an initial fitness test. Those shortlisted will undergo a series of assessments in September and October and those still under consideration must then pass a full medical examination. Offer letters will be sent out in November, with a view to the new intake of student officers starting their full police training in January 2009.

Inspector Keith Kinrade, the IoM Constabulary’s Staff Development Manager, said:

‘A varied, interesting and rewarding career with a dedicated and professional police force is on offer for those who are prepared to work hard towards serving their local community.’

Anybody interested in the constable vacancies who is unable to attend one of the open evenings can download an application form and supporting information from the Isle of Man Government website.
