Manx National Youth Theatre heads south 11 September 2008

The Manx National Youth Theatre is opening its doors at Castletown Youth Club with a production of the Dracula Rock Show.

Young actors, singers and dancers aged 14 to 18 are invited to take part in this spectacular show, which tells the story of Dracula – but not as you know it.

‘The Dracula Rock Show has an hilarious plot, full of eccentric characters and backed by a dynamic rock score that takes in 60s rock, a touch of 70s disco and even a line dance! A rock ‘n’ roll Dracula, Dolly Parton and a Mick Jagger-like rock star are just some of the surprises in this comedy musical,’ said Fiona Helleur, who runs the Manx National Youth Theatre.

Manx National Youth Theatre South will meet at Castletown Youth Club in Arbory Street on Mondays from 7pm-9pm. The membership fee is £1 per week.

Meetings commence on Monday 15 September. The production will be staged before Christmas at a venue to be announced.

The Manx National Youth Theatre, which falls under the auspices of the Department of Education’s Youth and Community Service, has operated in Douglas for 15 years and has more than 100 members.

It is the Island’s oldest established youth theatre group. Fiona said:

‘I have often been asked to open a branch out of Douglas and, if this club is successful, then more will hopefully follow.’
