Job Market Statistics August 2008 16 September 2008

Unemployment remained virtually unchanged in August, to finish the month at 595, 1.4% of the economically active population. This figure is 38 lower than for the corresponding month last year, reflecting the continued strength of the economy.

During the month of August 151 claimants signed on the unemployment register and 147 signed off. Of the total, 390 are males and 205 are females.

A total of 606 job vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month and at the end of the month 319 were still vacant and held on file.
