Chief Minister congratulates American President – elect Obama 7 November 2008

On behalf of the government and people of the Isle of Man, Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK has written to congratulate Barack Obama on his election to the presidency of the United States of America, wishing him success during his term of office.

The Chief Minister reminded Mr Obama that an Isle of Man delegation met last year in Washington with the then Senator’s senior tax counsel and wrote,

“I very much hope that it will be possible to build further on this relationship under your Presidential leadership."
“There are many Americans of Manx descent who retain a strong interest in the Isle of Man as the home of their ancestors and so we have a strong link between our two nations,”

the Chief Minister added.

He commended Mr Obama for the inspiration and energy he demonstrated on the campaign trail, suggesting those qualities will serve America well in the years ahead.
