Free Willow Lantern-Making Workshops 27 October 2008

The streets of Douglas and Ramsey will be lit up this festive season when Lantern Parades take place in both towns.

Annual lantern parades are a very popular event in Ramsey and this year the Arts Council has extended this to Douglas. Free lantern-making workshops are also arranged for the local communities and anyone can attend to learn how to make their own lantern for the parade.

Emma Callin, Arts Development Manager said

“The workshops and parade are always popular in Ramsey and we hope to see a similar response in Douglas this year. People of any age can make a lantern, although children should be accompanied by an adult. Lanterns can be any shape and size and we’ve seen some wonderful creations in the past. For those who have never made a willow lantern before there will be plenty of help at the workshops to show you how.”

The workshops in Douglas will take place over the weekends of 15th/16th November and 22nd/23rd November at Fairfield Primary School on Tynwald St. The parade in Douglas on Thursday 27th November meets at the Town Hall at 7pm and runs in conjunction with Douglas Corporation switching on the Christmas lights.

Workshops in Ramsey will be over the weekends of 29th/30th November and 6th/7th December and take place at the Freemasons' Hall, Lezayre Rd. The parade in Ramsey meets at the Town Hall car park at 7pm on Friday 12th December.

Workshops are free and great seasonal fun for all the family. To find out more telephone the Arts Council Office on 694598 or email iomartscouncil@dtl.gov.im.
