Island's first kerbside recycling scheme launched tomorrow 13 October 2008

DLGE, Douglas Corporation, Braddan and Onchan Commissioners will launch the long-awaited kerbside recycling scheme at 11am on Tuesday 14th October 2008 at Douglas Corporation's Ballacottier Headquarters, Isle of Man Business Park, Cooil Road.

The kerbside recycling scheme will be available in Douglas, Braddan and Onchan. 3 kerbside recycling vehicles will collect newspapers and mags, cans, aerosols, foil, glass, and plastic bottles from residents' on a fortnightly round system. (See Note 1 below.)

More details of the scheme will be released tomorrow.

The kerbside recycling scheme will be launched by Dudley M W Butt, MLC, Member of the Department with responsibility for Waste Management.

It will be attended by John Shimmin, DLGE Minister, Ken Kinrade, DLGE Chief Executive, Yvette Mellor, DLGE Deputy Chief Executive, MHKs from the Constituent Authorities and Commissioners and officers from the three Local Authorities, and Isle of Man Friends of the Earth.

NOTE 1: Residents will receive two 55-litre recycling boxes with straight forward information (including a leaflet and collection calendar) over the next fortnight. A blue recycling box and cover will be provided for newspapers, glossy magazines & junk mail. A green box & net will be provided for clean glass bottles & jars, clean food cans, drinks cans & foil and empty plastic bottles. First collection will be on November 3rd. A recycling telephone helpline will be available on 696450.
