World premiere at Douglas school 10 October 2008

The Lacey Theatre Company of Cardiff has visited the Island for the first time, presenting the world premiere of its latest piece, The Story So Far.

This enthralling, one-woman performance is designed to meet the National Curriculum requirements for understanding Christianity and it gripped audiences of all ages during a three-day residency at the Studio Theatre, Ballakermeen High School.

Star of the show is the talented Elin Jeynes, who was trained by the renowned Robert Lacey himself. Elin has developed this new presentation in collaboration with director Steve Stickley and is embarking on an extensive national tour. BHS Lacey

As well as the performances, the company provided drama workshops, which proved extremely popular. They were led by Dulcie Sellick who thoroughly enjoyed working with the young people at Ballakermeen.

'They have been wonderful,' she said, 'and the school is a fantastic environment for the students to learn and be creative in – inspirational.'

The company came to the Isle of Man as the result of a local man’s friendship with its founder. Youth worker at Broadway Baptist Church Bill Platt tried unsuccessfully for a number of years to bring Robert Lacey here, but before he could visit, Robert became terminally ill and died.

During his illness he trained a small group of actors to continue and develop his work, and they now constitute the Lacey Theatre Company.

'I am sorry that Robert could never come here, but delighted to welcome his company. They have been very successful and well-received. We hope to welcome them back in the future,' said a spokesman for the school.
