Successful Monaco Yacht Show for Isle of Man 2 October 2008

Trade and Industry Minister, Hon David Cretney MHK, joined the delegation representing the Isle of Man’s Ship and Aircraft Registers that attended the Monaco Yacht Show held between 24th- 27th September 2008.

The Monaco Yacht Show brought together professionals from the international luxury yachting sector; ship-builders and designers; equipment suppliers; brokers; and service providers. It is renowned throughout the sector because it is the only yacht show exclusively devoted to superyachts of at least 25 metres in length.

This year’s event was the 18th and proved to be the biggest yet with 500 exhibitors and 28,000 visitors.

The Isle of Man Ship Registry hosted a stand in conjunction with the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry in recognition of the similarities in target market for ownership of corporate jets and superyachts. Their presence was complemented by excellent support from Isle of Man companies operating in the shipping and aircraft management sectors.

The services on offer ranged from vessel registration, aircraft registration, surveys, yacht management, corporate vehicles, tax structures and virtual web creation – all of which highlighted to the Isle of Man’s continued strength in depth in these areas.

David Cretney who was in attendance at the Isle of Man stand for one of the three days commented:

“It was encouraging to see so many people from the Island in Monaco, each promoting the services we have to offer, illustrative of the excellent working relationship between Government and the private sector.

This was my first visit to this show and a number of Isle of Man yachts were in attendance all displaying the Manx flag. There is no better showcase for the Isle of Man than to see the ports of Douglas and Ramsey proudly displayed on these magnificent vessels, plus there was an Isle of Man-registered helicopter, M-BOAT, which was being displayed on board a yacht. It resulted in a very successful show for the Isle of Man in terms of outcomes. We have secured six more superyachts for the Register, with the possibility of more to follow in the future, and received numerous enquiries for aircraft registration.”
