Student has a doodle for Google 25 September 2008

MILLIONS of Google-users all over the world enjoy the ever-changing doodles on the search engine's homepage, which reflect special dates in the calendar or major events such as the Olympics.

Google's next doodle, which will go live on October 1, could be the work of an 11-year-old Ballakermeen High School student.

Nathan Spellman and his fellow students in Year 7 and Year 8 drew up entries for the search engine's Doodle 4 Google competition, which has the theme 'My Community'.Google poster

Nathan's was one of six designs submitted by the school and now he has been named the North West winner in the 7-11s age group.

As one of 48 regional winners, Nathan's entry - which features Castle Rushen, a Manx cat and a motorbike as well as the sun - is now up for public vote via www.google.co.uk/doodle4google

Voting closes this Sunday and the national winner will appear on the Google homepage for a day next week, where it will be seen by at least 18 million people.

Kelly McConville, Faculty Leader for ICT, said: 'I was delighted to be informed by Google that Nathan Spellman was selected as the North West winner for the 7-11 age group, being judged on artistic merit, creativity, interpretation of the ‘My Community’ theme and the supporting statement he provided for his doodle.'

She said: 'As one of the 48 regional winners, Nathan’s doodle will be voted for by the general public which will help choose the National winner. We would like as many votes as possible from teachers, parents, students and the general public.'
