Gambling Supervision Bill 2008 17 November 2008

The Treasury has today posted on its web site a consultation document outlining proposals for the Gambling Supervision Bill 2008.

The Bill is primarily intended to provide for the Gambling Supervision Commission to become a Statutory Board.

The Bill also expands on the constitution, status and the exercise of functions of the Commission, but does not look to alter the existing regulatory objectives.

In addition, the Department has taken the opportunity to address a number of minor issues that have arisen from application of the existing legislative framework.

Sponsorship of The Gambling Supervision Commission was transferred from the Department of Home Affairs to the Treasury in 2007 and this Bill will place the Commission on a similar standing to the other regulatory bodies aligned to the Department.

The documents can be accessed from the Treasury website or via the following direct link:

Alternatively, a paper copy can be obtained from the Corporate Strategy Division by contacting Colin Cowley on 686152.
