New Social Services Assistant Director for Mental Health 7 November 2008

The Department of Health and Social Security are pleased to announce that Steve Chell has been appointed as the Assistant Director of Social Services with responsibility for Mental Health.

David Killip, DHSS Chief Executive Officer said,

“I am delighted that Steve has been appointed the Assistant Director for Mental Health and I look forward to working closely with him to ensure that the Department continues to develop and improve the service of Mental Health in the Isle of Man.”

Andrew Swithinbank, Director of Social Services said,

“Steve has played a crucial role in both managing the current excellent services and in planning their modernisation to meet ever changing needs and expectations. His in-depth knowledge of the Manx mental health situation and his clear vision for improved future provisions will help him to hit the ground running.”

Steve originally qualified as a Registered General Nurse in Stoke-on-Trent in 1987 and as a Registered Health Visitor in Leeds in 1996. Steve moved to the Island in 2000 to take up a position of generic Health Visitor, before moving on to the Drug and Alcohol Team in 2001, a service which he has managed for five years before moving up to lead a wide range of specialist services providing care and support for those facing mental health issues in the Isle of Man.

Steve succeeds Ian Wadsworth, who retired from the position in July.
