First homes open on Royal Park, Ramsey 26 November 2008

Seven affordable homes at the new Royal Park development, Ramsey, will be officially visited by Juan Watterson MHK, DLGE Member with responsibility for Estates and Housing on Thursday 27th November at 3pm. He will make a presentation to first time buyers Terry & Elizabeth Hickey and Paul & Patricia Taylor, who have both just moved into their new homes.

Mr Watterson said,

‘The demand for affordable homes from local people has not fallen during the credit crunch, and the generous nature of the First Time Buyer Scheme has enabled relatively low earners meet new tougher mortgage requirements and get a foot on the property ladder. Housing is also a key stimulus to the building industry, so there are the twin benefits of ensuring ongoing employment, continued support for local businesses, and reaffirming our commitment to young first time buyers. This scheme is something the Island can really be proud of.’
‘I’m very pleased that DLGE has been able to assist the funding of this important new development in Ramsey, which further contributes to our target of building 250 first time buyer homes by March 2011.’

The Royal Park estate is being developed by Hartford Homes in Ormly Fields, opposite the Grand Island Hotel just north of Ramsey. In the first phase of development they are providing seven 3-bedroom houses as first time buyer homes for people on DLGE’s First Time Buyer Register.

Each of the new homes has been built to standards of space and quality defined for affordable homes by DLGE and the sale price of each first time buyer property is £142,500. When the first phase of the development is finished the development will consist of 46 homes in all.

These seven properties at Royal Park are just a few of the affordable homes DLGE has provided in Ramsey this year, which include the first phase of a redevelopment of the Lezayre Estate for Ramsey Commissioners (52 public sector homes for rent) and development at Ballure Road (17 apartments).
