Levi adds spice to school life 11 December 2008

LIFE was spiced up for Year 11 students at Ballakermeen High School when well known reggae singer and 'Dragon Slayer' Levi Roots called in to give them a talk.

Roots, who famously defeated the panel of entrepreneurs on TV's Dragon's Den with his Reggae Reggae Sauce, gave a 'fabuliciously' motivational speech to GCSE students receiving their mock examination results.Levi Roots

In a mock ceremony intended to mimic the experience of receiving their results next August, the students were presented with their results, together with letters outlining their possible implications on their chosen path.

The formal presentation of results was first used last year. The idea is to concentrate students’ minds while there is time to improve grades, and it proved successful, leading to record results.

Students were fascinated to learn about Levi's success in the world of business.

Deputy Headteacher Annette Baker commented:

‘Levi was inspirational. We are very grateful to Sharon Kissack and the Junior Chamber of Commerce for setting up what is now Levi’s second visit to the school: it was an outstanding success.’

Headteacher Adrienne Burnett said:

'We were delighted to welcome Levi to the school for the second and hopefully not the last time. He is a charismatic speaker who delivered an extremely motivational message to our Year 11 students at a crucial stage in their preparation for their GCSE examinations.'
