Arbory School makes history 5 January 2009

An exciting new local history project celebrating the 175th anniversary of Arbory School is launched this month.

Arbory School has been at the heart of its local rural community since 1834 and the Friends of Arbory School want to produce a book to mark this occasion.

Using information contained in the old school log books, the aim of the project is to produce a book based on the school’s history, together with personal recollections and reminiscences of those who have attended the school in the past.

Members of the school community – past and present – are invited to share their fascinating memories of Arbory School. It is hoped contributions will be received from

• Staff and pupils, past and present

• Parents and families

• Local residents.

The Friends of Arbory School will be involved in the preparation, collection and collation of material for the book using personal reminiscences, archives and old photographs.

The research for the book will be completed by July 2009 and it will be published in time for Christmas 2009.

If you would like to be a part of this once in a lifetime project, please call Mrs Sam Blackford on 07624 303727 or Mrs Angela Pickard on 07624 424661 or alternatively you can write to Friends of Arbory at the school’s address or via friendsofarbory@manx.net
