Department of Tourism and Leisure attracts Londoners for Spring 6 April 2009

The Isle of Man Department of Tourism and Leisure has launched a high profile media campaign to attract more Londoners to the Island, by showcasing the Island as the ideal destination for city dwellers, families, wildlife lovers and adventure fans.

Stage one of the campaign in March consisted of advertorials published in The London Lite and City AM, two of the largest circulation free newspapers in London. Advertisements followed to reinforce the Isle of Man messaging. The advertising campaign was also extended to national newspapers, The Times and The Daily Telegraph. The print advertising campaign is an extension of the award winning nationwide television commercials, profiling Keirron and The Anderson family.

Billboard advertisements have been erected at London City Airport and busy railway stations to engage the high footfall of daily commuters. London black cabs will even sport the Isle of Man branding to reinforce the message to Londoners that the Isle of Man is closer than they might think.

In May the London campaign will culminate with an eye-catching display at a city centre location for the day to entice Londoners with a taste of the Island.

The campaign aims to encourage more people to look closer to home when choosing a holiday destination. In the current economic climate there has never been a better time to highlight what the Isle of Man has to offer, from its natural beauty and adventurous activities, to the diverse range of accommodation and local produce, in addition to a broad range of unique tourist attractions suitable for all the family.

Hon Martyn Quayle MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure, said:

‘With improved flight links to the Island from London City Airport, Gatwick and Luton, and the Island’s ease of access from other major airports, it is important to raise awareness of all that the Isle of Man has to offer to visitors. We look forward to welcoming to the Island a greater number of visitors from London and the South East of England in future.’
