Sulby Claddagh Water Supply 28 May 2009

Staff of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry were called to Sulby Claddagh over the bank holiday weekend to deal with a water supply problem.

Due to a lack of pressure in the supply, which runs through adjacent private land, it was necessary to close the toilet block at the Claddagh for a period. Chairman of the Forestry Division, Brenda Cannell MHK said “we are very grateful for the swift action of the Water Authority which, despite not being responsible for maintaining the supply, provided a bowser of drinkable water for visitors to use. Alternative toilet facilities remained available at the nearby Ballabrooie Estate just off the Sulby Straight.”

The Department is currently seeking a solution to the problem with the aim of having a more permanent arrangement in place in time for the busy TT fortnight.

The Sulby Claddagh has been the subject of intense debate in recent months over their future management. The Department has been liaising closely with the Sulby Claddagh Liaison Group and a set of proposals are expected to be released for public comment in July.
